What is the best ways to appeal a parking ticket?

Below is a selection of scenarios which may apply should you receive a parking ticket incorrectly, and gives you reasons for contesting the fine.

The signage or road marking were unclear or obstructed:

Wherever you decide to park (road or car park) the signage or markings must be clear and visible to those looking to park. To prove that the ticket was given incorrectly you must prove either of the following:

The signs were confusing and misleading

You was parked correctly:

If a ticket was issued incorrectly stating that you over stayed your time, you are more than entitled to contest it, by providing evidence that you returned at the correct time.

If you received a ticket for not parking within the parking space it would be advisable to take images of your vehicle parked correctly.

Your vehicle broke down:

Breaking down can happen to anybody and what can make the situation worse is being issued with a ticket as a consequence. If this happens to you could try the following to appeal your ticket:

If a parking ticket arrived through your letter box and you was not the driver of the vehicle at the time, you are within your rights to appeal it. You must provide the name and the address of the person who was using the vehicle at the time the ticket was issued.

You was late by 5-10 Minutes:

Known as the ‘Grace Period’ all ATA Members should give you an extra 10 minutes before writing a parking ticket. If they haven’t allowed you a little bit of time, you may want to appeal your ticket.

There was a valid reason for not being able to get back to your vehicle:

The Equality Act 2010 states you must be treated with understanding and can’t be discriminated against, so if the following applies you should appeal the ticket:

You are pregnant

You have a disability that makes it difficult to walk

or you have a very young child.
