How much does a moped licence cost in the UK?

Its time to get on two wheels with this three step plan for getting your moped licence.

Mopeds are a great way to travel. Zipping your way through traffic will not only save you time but also give you the freedom to explore at your own pace.

But before you jump aboard your two-wheeled chariot, you might be wondering, How much does a moped licence cost in the UK?

Step 1:

How much does a moped licence cost in the UK?

When applying for your provisional moped licence, you have a couple of options. you can apply online for a budget-friendly £34.00, or if you have a more laid-back vibe, you can apply through the post for £43.00, which does take longer. So unless you have money to burn, I would apply online.

Step 2:

Apply for your Compulsary Basic Training Certificate (CBT).

Once you are the proud owner of your provisional licence, you will need to complete your Compulsary Basic Training (CBT). You are probably thinking What is the moped compulsory basic training (CBT) course?

The CBT Certificate is a day of training and is required by anyone who wants to ride a moped on UK roads up to 125cc. The pricing for a CBT can vary greatly and will also depend on where in the country you live, but typically you can expect to pay between £90 and £170.00.

Once you have aced your CBT and completed it with flying colours, bear in mind that your CBT only lasts for two years before it will need renewing.

If you are interested in some tips to pass your moped Compulsory Basic Training first time the following may help:

  • Preparation is Key: leading up to your CBT it is a good idea to read up on the Highway Code so that you can familiarise yourself with signage and how to ride.
  • Find the right provider: choosing the right CBT centre is important, so read reviews and speak to people who have previously completed their CBT.

Step 3:

Applying for your motorcycle theory test.

Like a lot of people, once they have completed their CBT certificate they get the bug for riding two wheels, so they want to get their full motorcycle licence.

Before you do, though, you will need to complete a motorcycle theory test, which costs £23, and once you have passed, you will have two years to complete your full motorcycle licence.
